This week, Emraan Hashmi went public with allegations that he was the victim of housing discrimination due to his religion. He was unable to get a "no objection certificate" for the purchase of his new home in the luxuriously posh Pali Hill neighborhood. Instead, Emraan will be seeking a "character certificate" from the police to assure the society members of his upstanding character. People, please.....
Do I think that a "character certificate" request is ridiculous? Definitely. I mean, please - who hasn't heard of Emraan Hashmi? He couldn't keep his private life secret if he wanted to. Rumor is that the housing society disproved of his film roles and "serial kissing." Um, it's called acting people. That means that it isn't real. And if the housing society can't figure that out, imagine the intellectual capacity of the residents or Pali Hill.
Do I think that Emraan Hashmi was discriminated against because he is a Muslim? Yes. It's happened before, it will happen again. Just ask Zulfi Sayed or Shabana Azmi.
And do I think that Emraan should move in to the Pali Hill home if all paperwork gets sorted? No. First of all, who would want to live where they aren't wanted? Second, as alluded to above, it is likely infested with intellectual half-wits.
If Emraan does decide to move into this home, however, I hope that he makes sure to throw lavishly loud parties, invite the brazen and bold from all corners of the globe to diversify the neighborhood, and that he trains his dog to piss on the stoops of his neighbors. Pooh-pooh, Pali!
